3 Ways to Take Care of Our Mental Health

According to the Mental Health Foundation: “Mental health problems are one of the main causes of the overall disease burden worldwide.” The Foundation also noted from its sources that “1 in 6 people in the past week experienced a common mental health problem.”  

These facts point out to us how prevalent mental health problems are today. And while these facts are alarming, I do believe that we can also do something to ensure that we and our loved ones can aim for as well as maintain sound mental health. Here are 3 ways which I believe could help us to journey towards a healthy mental state:

1. Take care of yourself. This may sound very basic but I think this is key in keeping ourselves healthy in all aspects of our lives, including mentally. We need to get enough rest and sleep, eat well and live an active lifestyle.

2. Maintain healthy relationships. How is your relationship with your family, loved ones? Are you asking:is love enough in your relationship? Unresolved issues in the family and your loved ones can be a burden emotionally, mentally. We need to face such issues; we also need to nurture these relationships for our good and for their good.

3. Avail of counselling and therapy. We are not meant to carry our burdens alone. Consider getting counselling or therapy during times of challenges, crisis. Nowadays, you can even avail of online therapy. You can no longer say then that you do not have time to go out and get some therapy. You can now access online therapy from your office, from your home.

May it be indeed that we take care of ourselves: physically, emotionally. spiritually and yes, mentally. When we take care of our bodies, our minds, our hearts – we are able to continue living with passion and with purpose.
